Bioso i wrote a book, and a small genre press in Atlanta published it. it's getting good reviews and excellent word of mouth, which is dandy. but then i wrote another one, as my contract stipulated that i must...and sometime between the first book being published and the second one finding its way to press, i learned that my publisher was a world class ASSHAT.
with the help of a retired contract negotiator-turned-agent, i have weaseled out of that 2nd-book-obligation...and now i am free to seek greener pastures--though this resulted in my book being taken out of print.
this journal initially began as a chronicle of my attempt to complete a second novel--it was intended to be a writer's diary that might propel me toward productivity; but it has morphed into something more than that. it has alternately served as (a). an account of the regal screwing i received at the hands of an unscrupulous small businessman, (b). a desperate attempt to motivate myself to work, and always (c). the tale of my jaunt through the publishing biz.
as if to provide a crowning climax to this long, unsavory saga--i recently signed a 3-book deal with TOR/Tom Doherty Associates. this deal will re-release my first book (with added content/revisions) and produce 2 sequels, that i might have a TRILOGY OF DOOM. you can imagine my glee--or, if you've been on this page for awhile, you don't have to imagine it. you've watched it in action.
the vast bulk of this journal is friends-only, so if it looks like i haven't updated in awhile, well, that appearance is deceiving. most of the content here is locked for legal purposes, and if you friend this page i will probably add you back--but it might take me a few days.
at any rate, this LJ has NOW become the "watch as i hurry up andprocrastinate work on my impending projects" page, wherein i piss and moan about writing/the writing industry/my lack of patience/my delusions of grandeur. also, i use this page to bounce and squeal over trivial publishing milestones, so if this doesn't sound like your cup of tea, well, kindly move along. but if you're curious to see how a REAL [read: starving and largely unacknowledged] writer goes about navigating the publishing world, well, sign yourself up.
